Crisis spreading its influence nationwide
With new centres in Birmingham and Oxford alongside established Crisis Skylight centres in London and Newcastle, Crisis is realising its ambitions of supporting more homeless people throughout the UK.
The development of its new site in Birmingham and finalised architectural plans being drawn up for a new centre in Oxford, Crisis is steadily expanding on existing Crisis Skylight centres (our education, training and employment centres) already established in London and Newcastle. The growth comes as part of a 5-year plan launched in 2008, with the aim of creating another 7 Skylight centres around the UK.
The Birmingham Skylight Centre opened at the beginning of July 2010 and the Crisis team is working with partner organisations, planning the delivery of taster sessions over the summer and putting together at timetable of classes and activities for the start of the Autumn term in October. It is expected to almost double in size within the next 3 years.
Refurbishment on the Old Fire Station in Oxford began on 5 August, with Oxford City Council and Crisis inviting local residents to come and see the final designs for the building, speak to the site manager and discuss ideas on how the project would best serve the community.
Further Crisis Skylight centres, planned for Edinburgh and Liverpool, are currently in development and are projected for completion by the end of 2010/ 2011, with Crisis already recruiting for staff in Edinburgh.
