Local talent helps celebrate Newcastle volunteers

Peruvian pipe band Apu

On Wednesday evening Crisis Skylight Newcastle hosted its annual volunteers surprise evening. The event is held each year in the Skylight Cafe on City Road, in order to celebrate and thank Crisis' numerous volunteers.

This year the food, provided by the Skylight Café was accompanied with the haunting musical styling of locally based Peruvian band Apu. Local magician Kendrick (Ken Thornton) also gave a spectacular performance with both close up magic and a stage act. Both acts were kind enough to perform at the event for free because they believe so strongly in the Crisis cause.

Nick Sinclair, volunteer coordinator and organiser of the event said. "I am always so impressed by our volunteers. Their commitment to the cause and passion for what we do is helping Crisis on a daily basis to end homelessness in the local area" June Grimes, the centre manager who was also in attendance at the event echoed Nick's comments stating: "Volunteers are essential to the effective delivery of our service, and are always very supportive and inspirational to our members."
