Crisis on the sofa with Gabby Logan
Gabby Logan welcomed Crisis at Christmas guest turned volunteer Naomi O'Connor and Head of Crisis at Christmas Mick Bateman onto the sofa on Channel 5's Wright Stuff Extra to talk about the life-changing effect the charity has on homeless people's lives.
Naomi told of how she lived on the street, addicted to crack and heroin from the age of 14. She lived from fix to fix until her early twenties, when she first came to Crisis at Christmas. There, severely malnourished from years of heavy drug abuse, the interest that Crisis volunteers took in her made her look at herself, and she took the decision to move away from the life she had become mired in.
Now seven years down the line, Naomi has beaten her addiction and has her own flat and steady work. She is also a senior volunteer at Crisis at Christmas, and draws upon her own experience of homelessness to help others in a similar situation.
Gabby Logan said: "I first volunteered for Crisis at Christmas ten years so, Kenny and I found it a very moving and rewarding experience. Crisis at Christmas offers friendship, advice, support and fun, at one of the loneliest and most isolating times of the year for some people, volunteers make all this possible."
