The Homeless Oratorio performs at local mental health and creativity event
The Homeless Oratorio - a musical group of Crisis Skylight members, run by arts and music education charity Squeaky Gate - has taken part in an event aimed at encouraging creativity for better mental health.
The musicians performed at the event put on by Community Options which works towards furthering mental health service user involvement in Tower Hamlets.
The Homeless Oratorio - which meets every week at Crisis Skylight London - performed original songs and poetry as part of the afternoon of interactive singing workshops, music and performance relating to the theme of ‘creativity in mental health'.
Held at the Mile End Ecology Pavilion, there were presentations on how creativity can benefit mental wellbeing, a question and answer session with mental health directors and commissioners, and a number of service providers including the Crisis Skylight wellbeing service, Family Action, MIND and Tower hamlets arts psychotherapy service, among many others.
All the musicians in the Homeless Oratorio are members of Crisis Skylight and draw on personal experiences of homelessness to develop lyrics, songs, instrumental music and poetry. They most recently performed at St Paul's Church in Covent Garden with the London Symphony Orchestra.
