Crisis backs Homes for Britain
Crisis has joined with 50 leading housing organisations to support Homes for Britain - an initiative calling for housing to be put at the top of the political agenda.
Homes for Britain will feature at more than 50 events hosted by over 40 organisations at all three main party conferences and has secured the support of every housing organisation hosting an event.
Crisis has long campaigned for more decent, affordable housing to prevent homelessness. In England around 1.75 million households are on the social housing waiting lists. As the demand for social housing in England has increased, so the supply has withered - there has been a drop of 1.7 million in the total number of social homes, from 5.5 million in 1981 to 3.8 million in 2009-10.
