Launch of final round of funding for private rented sector schemes supported by Crisis
Crisis has launched the final round of its funding for schemes helping single homeless people find homes in the private rented sector.
The three year Crisis Private Renting Programme is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and by 2014 will have awarded £10.8m to voluntary-sector led schemes across England, helping non-priority single homeless people to find and sustain private tenancies.
The Programme is currently funding and supporting 115 schemes in every region of England, ranging from projects working with rough sleepers in Liverpool, helping young people to find shared tenancies in south London and supporting ex-offenders in Leicester. In the first year of operation alone 49 funded schemes created 1,370 tenancies - with a 76% sustainment rate for at least six months.
The Programme aims to create 8,000 tenancies over the full three years ending in 2014.
The purpose of this funding programme is to expand the availability of private renting access schemes for single homeless people across England. It is open to not-for-profit organisations in England and as this is one-year funding only, all applicants must apply in a partnership and with some match-funding already in place. Crisis will prioritise schemes working with young people, those working with ex-offenders and those tackling the challenges specific to the London private renting market, as well as any other area where no scheme currently exists.
Crisis is the leading authority on the private rented sector (PRS) and has worked on developing access to the PRS since 1997.
The final funding round opened on 29 June with a deadline of 17 September and Crisis offers feedback on scheme ideas up until 1 August.
