First emergency night shelters open during the cold spell in January co-ordinated by Crisis and Shelter operated entirely by volunteers.

Weather forecaster Ian McCaskill presents BBC TV appeal in November raising over £97,000.

HRH Princess Alexandra becomes patron.

Freda Evans, volunteer for Crisis for over sixteen years sometimes working full time, is awarded the MBE in recognition of her work.
