Here you will find the answers to some frequently asked questions. This is not relevant for Crisis Open Christmas Volunteers - a separate FAQ's will be made available for you between October and December.

What role can I apply for?

Each role will contain a role description outlining the skills and experience needed. You should apply for the role that most suits your interests and experience.

What is the recruitment process?

Once you have decided what to apply for you then need to complete our application form which you can download from the How to apply.

When we get your application, we will invite you for an informal interview to discuss your involvement. We will then contact your referees and after attending a volunteer induction you will be able to start. The process normally takes two to three weeks.

What will I get from volunteering at Crisis?

Volunteers have different reasons for getting involved with us on a voluntary basis but some popular reasons are:

Giving something back
Improve CV
Meet new people

Do you provide training for volunteers?

Yes. All volunteers will have access to the Crisis volunteer training programme which includes sessions on understanding homelessness, cconflict management, client service skills and many more.

Will me expenses be reimbursed?

Yes, all volunteers (excpet those at Crisis Open Christmas) will be reimbursed their out-of-pocket travel expenses. If you volunteer four hours or more a day, we will also reimburse you up to Ł4 for lunch.

What age restrictions are there?

The minimum age is 18 years. There is no upper age limit.

How much time will I have to commit?

It depends on the role. Some are time specific (e.g. a workshop that runs at the same time every week) but we try to be as flexible as possible and it completely depends on your availability.

For example, a Skylight reception volunteer will normally volunteer for 2-4 hours weekly, while an office volunteer may get involved for 1-3 working days a week.
