Support services volunteer

We will be providing operational support, transport and communication between the centres. To coordinate this, we will be running an Operations Centre to serve as the 'nerve centre' of the event.

We are recruiting volunteers to help with this work - 'support service' volunteers.

Some of these roles will be based in the Operations Centre, others in the Warehouse or the centres themselves. While these roles involve less direct interaction with our guests, the impact of this work on guests is just as great.

What will I be doing?

  • We need key people to help us get the right information to the right people at the right time, identifying and helping solve issues that come up around the centres.
  • We need people to help co-ordinate and troubleshoot which services are delivered where and when, and to work on the ground in centres feeding information back to the Operations Centre.
  • We need drivers to help move the guests, services and resources between the centres.

Transport is crucially important for the event, and this year we are looking to identify and rota drivers and people to help co-ordinate the movement of our 40+ vehicles. Other roles include helping to distribute resources around the event or helping to co-ordinate our research and statistics gathering. Whilst there is less guest interaction involved with these roles, they will determine the success of the project as a whole.

What experience do I need?

No specific experience is required for any of the roles - so as long as you are enthusiastic and reasonably organised we’d like to hear from you. For those interested in driving you’ll need to be over 25 and happy to drive in central London.

What commitment do I need to make?

As with other types of Crisis Christmas volunteering, we need you to commit to a minimum of two shifts, so this means volunteering on two days from 23 to 30 December. The shifts are 8-9 hours long and include a morning, afternoon or evening shift. Reliability is a key issue and we need you to turn up on time for your allocated shifts.

If you were interested in helping out for most or all of the week and would be interested in these kind of roles, we would particularly like to hear from you, but any help would be appreciated.
