Weapons of Mass Instruction

Our Weapons of Mass Instruction campaign was launched in 2006.

The campaign was all about persuading the Government to do more to enable homeless people to get the learning and skills support they need rebuild their lives.

An award-winning campaign

Motivated by our experience and research showing that knowledge is cheaper than wasted lives, Crisis was calling for the Government to do much more.

This award-winning campaign was made powerful by the participation of thousands of Crisis e-campaigners. We celebrated one of the key demands of our Weapons of Mass Instruction campaign became reality in 2007 when the then Housing Minister Yvette Cooper announced £70 million in new Places of Change funding for for homeless people to help them rebuild their lives.

In response to the announcement Leslie Morphy, Chief Executive of homelessness charity Crisis, said: "We warmly welcome this new funding. We look forward to working with the Department of Communities and Local Government to help more homeless people in more places across the UK to find a route of homelessness and transform their lives."
