Campaign

Our campaigning history

Crisis was born in 1967 out of anger about the way people were homeless and left with no protection or support.  Reforming Conservatives, William Shearman and Iain MacLeod, led a candelit vigil of 3000 people in London's Hyde Park to demonstrate their concern and demand change.

Crisis continues to campaign

Today we remain angry about the scandal of homelessness. Supported by our thousands of e-campaigners we challenge Government and society to face up to the human and financial cost of homelessness.

A private matter?

Latest news: the proposed law to protect tenants passed through the most recent hurdle in Parliament on 29 January 2010. Thanks to all those e-campaigners who contacted their MPs asking them to support it! We'll let you know about the next stage in parliament when it's timetabled.

This campaign is vital because at the moment, if you’ve paid the rent but your landlord has failed to pay the mortgage you can still find yourself chucked out onto the streets with no rights if the property is repossessed.

That’s why Crisis joined with partners to launch the A private matter? campaign to protect the estimated 324,000 tenants estimated to be vulnerable to this catastrophe. We’re delighted that Brian Iddon MP is using a special parliamentary procedure to bring in a new law to protect tenants. Read the briefing on the problem and proposal.

Expose the truth

Expose the truth logoA Crisis investigation has showed single homeless people turning to their council are often turned away without the help they need. Expose the truth aims to change this.

Housing benefits, not barriers

For years it's been acknowledged that housing benefit can stop people getting out of poverty and into employment.

Housing benefits, not barriers calls on all political parties to commit to reform which would make sure work always pays.
