Crisis' commitment to your privacy

This privacy policy tells you the ways in which Crisis collects personal information about you when you use the Crisis website or services provided through the Crisis website and what the information may be used for.

Information we may hold about you

Personal information

We may collect information from you when you use our services on the website and submit personal information to us using online forms, when you email us or when you post a message on a bulletin board.

Examples of personal information include name, job title, organisation, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, age, third party contact details, skills, credit card and other payment details.

Sensitive personal information

Sensitive personal information is personal information relating to your religious or ethnic origin, religious or political opinions, sexual orientation, physical or mental health, trade union membership or criminal convictions.

We don't ask for sensitive personal information about you. However, we cannot guarantee that we will not come into possession of such information. For example, you may include some sensitive personal information in an email, bulletin board message or online form which you submit to Crisis.

We will not do anything with your sensitive personal information unless you ask us to or unless we need to in order to fulfill your request.

How do we use your information?

We use the personal information we hold about you only for the following purposes:

(i) To provide Crisis services to you

(ii) To administer our relationship with you

We use personal information that you supply us for the purpose for which it was collected. Examples include; sending you information or the answer to a query, to register your interest in taking part in an event or volunteering for Crisis, to enable you to buy publications or make donations.

Crisis may need to make your personal information available to other companies both inside and outside of the Crisis group of charitable companies and charitable trusts in order for the Crisis Service to be provided to you, for example, when we contract out some of our services or functions. However, when we do this, we will not authorise these third parties to use your personal information in any other way and will require them to protect your personal information to the same degree that we do.

(iii) To contact you about other products, services, events or developments

Crisis would like to use your personal information to contact you with information about Crisis, our services, events or developments, or those of other third parties, which we believe may be of interest to you. Crisis may also occasionally like to make personal information available to other carefully selected third parties to enable them to provide you with information directly about products, services, events or developments which may be of interest to you.

In such circumstances, Crisis or those acting on Crisis' behalf may transfer your personal information to these third parties.

If required to do so by any applicable law, search warrant, subpoena or court order, or by any regulation, treaty or other legally binding obligation with which Crisis or any company or trust within the Crisis group is required to comply, Crisis or any such company or trust will disclose some or all of your personal information as and to the extent that it is required to do so.

Cookies

The Crisis website uses Google Analytics to find out how people use our website in order to make improvements. Google Analytics uses cookies, small text files which are placed on your hard drive to store information, however the cookies do not have access to or use any personally identifiable information.

Sale or exploitation of personal information commercially by third parties

Crisis will not sell, rent, distribute or otherwise make personal information available to any third party, except for the purposes described in this privacy policy or with your prior permission.

Data security

Crisis uses a number of mechanisms to protect the security and integrity of your personal information. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. So while we strive to protect such information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. Once any personal information comes into our possession, we will take reasonable steps and all other precautions required by law to protect that information from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

The Crisis website may, from time to time, contain links to the websites of other organisations which may be of interest to you. Linked websites are responsible for their own privacy practices. This privacy policy only applies to the Crisis website.

Request for a copy of your personal information

If you would like a copy of your personal information please write to the Privacy Compliance Officer, CRISIS UK, 66 Commercial Street, London E1 6LT, stating your full name and providing us with sufficient information to verify your identity.

Please also help us to respond quickly by indicating why you think we hold personal information about you and what information you think we may hold.

Please note an access fee may be charged to cover our reasonable costs of providing the information to you.

Sometimes there may be a reason why access will not be possible. If that is the case, you will be told why.
