Crisis Supportive Housing model

Crisis' vision of a supportive housing model

We have a vision to create homes for people who are stuck in hostels, ready to move on but with nowhere to go. We have developed a cost-effective solution that gives people stability and support but also challenges and motivates them to transform their lives.

Supportive Housing is a socially mixed housing development that provides affordable housing for homeless and low income working people combined with round-the-clock, built-in support services.

Based on the highly successful model pioneered by Common Ground in New York, the housing, when combined with support services which are highly visible but non compulsory, allows people to take steps to recovery and move progressively towards independent living.

Our commitment to developing supportive housing

In 2007, Crisis planned to realise its supportive housing model as part of the Mildmay Urban Village project in East London. The proposed development was the result of a unique collaboration of individuals and organisations across the voluntary, local, commercial and financial sectors who believed the project would bring significant benefits to the local community. Regrettably the project had to be withdrawn at planning stage.

Crisis remains committed to developing the model elsewhere, as we feel that there is strong support for this new way of working. We plan to continue to work with interested authorities and partners to identify new opportunities both in London and across the UK. Please contact David Hewitt if you would like further information.
