Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Crisis Skylight Birmingham. Volunteers play an integral role in the services that we deliver throughout the year and are invaluable to us.
The volunteer opportunities we have available change all the time so please visit again at a later date if you do not see something you are interested in today.
Winter Term: January 2017 - March 2017
Our Winter Term runs from Monday 9 January 2017 until Friday 31 March 2017. Our classes tend to be two hours long and take place during office hours at different venues throughout the Birmingham area. We are looking for volunteers for the following classes:
- Technical Skills: Hair Styling, CSCS card workshop and Plastering
- Functional Skills: English for Speakers of Other Languages and 'Create a Website'
- Arts: Dance, Drama and Cinema / Theatre trips
Classroom Assistant volunteers support the tutors in the delivery of their class: helping set up and tidy up and supporting individual members within the group where extra support is needed.
We are especially looking for volunteers to support
- Our very popular Cinema and Theatre trips on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons
- Hair Styling Course on Friday mornings at our office
Please note that as term has already started, if you apply at this stage you will be joining the class a few weeks in.

Progression Group Facilitator
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to lead and facilitate a group of members who are coming to the end of accessing our services to meet on a weekly basis in the local area. The focus of the group will be health and wellbeing and a requirement of the role will be to research potential opportunities and activities that the group could do. You will need to be available once a week to meet with the group.
General Administration Volunteer
We are looking for an organised and proactive individual to provide administrative support to the Crisis Skylight staff in Birmingham and facilitate efficient running of the office. Your contribution will improve the productivity of the office, allowing us to support more people out of homelessness.
Experts by Experience Panel Member
We are looking for people with experience of homelessness who want to contribute to the work of Crisis. You will meet as a panel of Experts by Experience to discuss and inform the work of Crisis. This will ensure that the perspective of people with lived experience of homelessness is a core part of Crisis and included in how we develop strategies, policies, planning and how we engage people with our cause. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to debate and influence decision making in the wider homelessness sector. You will be helping to end homelessness.
We are looking for volunteers from across Great Britain to make up two branches of the Experts by Experience panel. You will taking part in quarterly meetings – three hours on a Saturday every three months for up to one year.

Community Fundraising Group Volunteer
We are looking for volunteers who will work together / join up as a group to organise and attend events in Birmingham to raise awareness and funds within the local community. This will be an exciting and fast-paced role with the opportunity to work with others to raise money for Crisis.
Community & Events Fundraising Volunteer
We are looking for individuals to support our Fundraising Executive in networking with the local community and developing fundraising initiatives. It will be great if you are an outgoing person who is confident speaking with others.
How to apply
Training and interviews will be held at our offices in Digbeth, Birmingham or very nearby if this venue is not available - travel expenses will be reimbursed and lunch will be provided if the training runs over a lunch time. We are looking to recruit and induct to the Learning Admin, Events and Fundraising roles as soon as possible.
