Our Recruitment Process

We’ve taken the following steps to create a fair recruitment process with the aim of being inclusive and avoiding bias. To learn more read FAQs on our application, interview and shortlisting process.

As part of our efforts to reduce any bias in our recruitment, we’ve made our applications ‘anonymous’, meaning hiring managers won’t have access to any of your personal details (such as your name, email address, etc.) until your interviews have been booked in. The panel will only have access to your ‘Employment’ details and your responses to the screening questions.

We appreciate that many people may not have had the opportunity to acquire formal qualifications, be that a degree or otherwise. For most of our roles we don’t ask you to submit your education/qualification history unless it is absolutely necessary to carry out the role (for example, our Clinical Psychologist positions).

We ask all our interview panel members to complete Unconscious Bias training before shortlisting and interviewing.

We do our best to ensure we have diverse interview panels, considering many factors including gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability, gender identification, and age. There may be occasions where, due to availability, our panels may not appear as diverse as we’d like, however it is always a consideration when planning the recruitment. We appreciate the additional insight that having someone with lived experience of homelessness on the panel can provide; our members often get involved with interviewing, either on the staff panel or as part of a separate member panel.

We're keen to make things as straight forward as possible for you and give you the best chance to succeed, regardless of any disability or additional needs you may have. This may involve sharing interview questions with you in advance, asking the panel to use the chat function to type questions during online interviews or allowing extra time to complete any tasks. We we will always try to give you the opportunity to be the best you can be when applying to work here.

We have decided against using AI to screen applications. We appreciate the time you take to submit an application and don’t think it would be fair for a computer to potentially rule you out of the running. All applications are screened by at least two people.
