Volunteering opportunities in Edinburgh

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Crisis Skylight Edinburgh.

Volunteers are vital to Crisis to help us run our classes, member events and, of course, Christmas!

Classroom assistant volunteer

Are you passionate about learning, looking for experience in a classroom setting, or wanting to put a few spare hours to good use? You could provide classroom support to one of our tutors.  Classes vary but includes music, cooking, political literacy, ESOL (English as a Second Language) and bike maintenance.

The opportunities currently available are:

  • Monday IT 10-12
  • Tuesday ESOL (9.30-11 and 1-3),
  • Thursday Art (1-3),
  • Thursday Core skills (6-8pm)

Promotions volunteer

Sometimes a little encouragement goes a long way. We are looking for promotions volunteers to visit partner organisations, tell members and potential members about Crisis services, and encourage them to come along and join in. The role will involve maintaining links with our partner organisations whether by email, phone calls or in person. It will also involve visits to the venues we use to deliver our classes and partner organisations across Edinburgh. This role is flexible, you don't need to be available at the same time every week.

Fundraising assistant volunteer 

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic volunteer with great organisational skills and an interest in fundraising.

You will assist with the preparation of fundraising initiatives, ensure that supporters of Crisis receive excellent supporter care and that our records are accurately maintained. There would also be the opportunity to join us at events at evenings or weekends. You volunteer will gain valuable fundraising and events experience whilst making a difference for homeless people.

Learning participation volunteer

Would you like to promote Crisis services to local homeless people? We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic volunteer to work with the learning manager, coordinators and tutors, you will create and implement a strategy to better engage existing members and involve new ones. 

This will include working with promotions volunteers to visit partner organisations to update them on new classes and visiting Crisis classes to gather feedback about the program.

Social media volunteer

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer experienced in social media who wants to get involved with and support the work of Crisis.

In collaboration with all teams across the Edinburgh Skylight (local and Scotland office), you will design and implement a social media strategy to promote our work across Scotland. This role can be done flexibly and could include attending Crisis events and classes and working with multiple teams to update followers on new projects and developments.

Volunteer roles without regular commitment

If your circumstances make it difficult to commit to a regular role we would still love for you to volunteer with Crisis. We have member events, fundraising activities and campaigning opportunities  that all benefit from enthusiastic volunteers.

Please note, applications for Crisis at Christmas are only taken through the online application process which opens in October.  We are unable to accept applications before then.
