Classroom Assistant Volunteer

Our classes cover a range of topics including Music, Art, Tiling, Painting and Decorating, ESOL, Literacy, Numeracy/Budgeting, IT, Creative Writing and more. We would like the help of volunteers to support our tutors and learners in these classes. Our sessions take place across Merseyside and are usually around two hours in length. Including setting up and clearing away, there will be a weekly commitment of around 3 hours. Volunteers will be assigned a weekly class and there will also be opportunity to cover other classes due to holidays and sickness on an ad hoc basis. This would be a great opportunity for anyone who would like experience of a classroom support setting, has an interest in working in a client facing role and has patience and an enthusiasm for learning. Please see the Classroom Assistant Volunteer role description for more information.

We produce a magazine called ‘The Merseysiders’. The magazine is run by our clients and is open for everyone to contribute. Yes We Can Read Volunteer

Yes We Can Readis a one to one reading scheme to help people who find reading challenging. It is a phonics-based programme which can be used with adults. The book is designed for any confident readers to teach others to read. Previous experience of one to one learning is not essential. You can use the skills you already know to help someone else, all you need is a little bit of time, patience and commitment

It is particularly helpful for members who are dyslexic, however any developing reader could benefit. The book offers instructions throughout, and will guide you through the programme. You will also work closely with the Functional Skills Co-ordinator who can provide you with support if you have any questions. This is a great position if you want to work with people a little more intensely and there is the potential to see people really progressing with a skill. Please see the Yes We Can Read Volunteer role description for more information.
