Your support worker
A Crisis Changing Lives grant can be applied for through your support worker.
Who is my support worker?
A support worker can be a key worker, progression worker, housing officer, probation officer - anyone working with you on a regular basis to improve education, employability, living situation, mental health. Your support worker needs to have known you for at least six months.
Basically, this is someone working for an organisation which regularly supports you and agrees to take care of the grant on your behalf.
Why do I need a support worker?
What you receive is the equipment, materials or the chance to attend a course. This is the grant. No support worker is allowed to give any actual money out to grant recipients.
In a way, your support worker takes on the role of administrator. He or she will hold the funds, in their organisation’s account, and will shop and pay for any goods and courses with you or for you.
They will deal with all the extra paperwork and keep all records on your behalf and so, if any paperwork or receipts are lost or unaccounted for, it is the support worker we will hold responsible, not you.
