Crisis to feature in ITV1 Text Santa campaign

25 November 2011

Crisis is one of nine UK charities to feature in a major new television fundraising project to raise funds for the charity during the Christmas period.

A stellar line-up of stars including Ant and Dec, Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley will host fun-filled festive shows starting on Sunday 11 December with a live one hour special and the exciting finale will take place on Christmas Eve,

Both shows will combine surprise studio items with pre-recorded entertainment pieces that will be uplifting and celebrate the spirit of goodwill and good fortune at Christmas.  The programmes will bring to life the charities and the Text Santa appeal while encouraging viewers to text donate throughout.

The Text Santa appeal is working on behalf of a chosen group of five national charities and four hospitals for sick children.  As well as Crisis, the other charities to benefit from the project are Carers UK, Help the Hospices, Samaritans, WRVS, Great Ormond Street Children's Charity, Helping Hand, Noah's Ark Appeal and Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

Crisis Chief Executive Leslie Morphy said:

"We are thrilled to be part of this exciting new television project. Text Santa will help Crisis reach millions of people, raise understanding and funds to help homeless people find hope for the future.

"As we mark our 40th Crisis at Christmas anniversary, Text Santa will help bring attention to some of society's most vulnerable individuals - single homeless people - who need our support more than ever during the festive season which can be a very isolating and depressing time.

"Crisis at Christmas will welcome some 3,000 people to centres in London and Newcastle this year. We also work all year round through our Crisis Skylight services in Oxford, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh, London and Merseyside, as well as supporting people into housing all over the UK."

"Crisis Skylight services include education, creativity workshops, advice and training to help homeless and vulnerable individuals to gain confidence and skills."

Crisis

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. We are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change. Our innovative education, employment, housing and well-being services address individual needs and help people to transform their lives. We are determined campaigners, working to prevent people from becoming homeless and advocating solutions informed by research and our direct experience. We have ambitious plans for the future and are committed to help more people in more places across the UK. We know we won't end homelessness overnight or on our own. But we take a lead, collaborate with others and, together, make change happen.
