About SmartMove Chorley:
Help The Homeless Chorley (HTHC) was formed form various local individuals who were seeking to relieve poverty, distress and hardship amongst the homeless or recentlyresettled individuals and to reduce the number of homeless people within the Borough of Chorley. The organisation was formally established in January 1994 and became a registered charity in February 1997. In November 2003 we registered Help the Homeless (Chorley) Ltd as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The new company was formally registered as a charity in December 2003 and commenced trading in April 2004.
The charity has developed rapidly over the years from humble beginnings that saw us working from private houses offering modest assistance to a fully comprehensive and impressive package of services for several hundred vulnerable people per year operating from three designated premises in Chorley.
Our aim is the relief of poverty and distress among the homeless and other vulnerable people from within the Borough of Chorley. The charity aspires to meet these aims by assisting clients to access decent affordable accommodation and sustain such accommodation via:
- provision of initial advocacy, advice and information pertaining to housing.
- maintainance of a list of approved properties in the private and social sector.
- operation of a referral system to specialist help.
- provision of essential houshold items, clothing and food.
- resettlement training/ tenant support enabling clients to lead an independent lifestyle.
We currently employ a Projects Co-ordinator, a Senior Tenant Support Officer, two full timeTenant Support Officers, two part-time tenant Support Officers, a part-time Accommodation and Assessment Officer and a full time Mediation Co-ordinatorr. We also benefit from the services of more than 35 volunteers.
