SmartMove provides homeless or vulnerably housed people with comprehensive housing advice and access to good quality accommodation in the private sector. It offers landlords a guarantee in place of the traditional deposit. It can provide the tenants with ongoing support and advice to enable them to sustain their tenancies, as well as befriending support from volunteers for new tenants who may be living independently for the first time.

About SmartMove Derry:
There is a shortage of accommodation suitable for young single people and the private housing market, though large, is transient.

Derry has a major homelessness problem among its predominantly young population (53% are under 30). On the plus side, most housing is affordable. Rent levels are not much higher than housing benefits, but still enough to provide an incentive for landlords.

The SmartMove office has made a significant improvement to homelessness levels since it opened in 1999. Jackie Williamson also manages the new office in Belfast.
