Grand Union and Crisis present....
The Growing Project
The Growing Project, established in 2019, is a community-led growing scheme, working with organisations who support vulnerably-housed people and those in crisis.
The Minerva Canal-side Apothecary Garden
Specially designed and constructed to include planters for growing herbs for healing practices, this garden will be a communal seating area and have outdoor cooking facilities.
Led by women, the growing space will offer safe opportunities for women to come together, to develop knowledge around growing and healing practices in the city centre.
Working collaboratively with women’s support organisations, Grand Union are running weekly sessions with artists and creative practitioners that foster a connection between plants and people.
Grand Union have invited our female * members to join them and other women* who have a lived experience of homelessness in this gardening project.
As part of The Growing Project our female members will get to
- Put mulch on flower beds and put up trellises
- Sow seed in flower beds and pots
- Make tea bags using the herbs and plants you have grown
- Create oils with the herbs and plants you have grown

It can be accessed via their website by clicking on the link below.

Lateral Flow Testing Kits
Rapid lateral flow tests help to find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others.
The test usually involves taking a sample from your tonsils (or where they would have been) and from your nose, using a swab.
Crisis Skylight Birmingham have a supply of test available for staff, volunteers and our members.
If you would like to have some tests to do in your own time, please let your lead worker know.
TELL YOUR STORY
Personal stories are incredibly important to our work. Stories help the general public, policy makers and our supporters to understand the causes and the solutions to homelessness. During the past twelve months real life stories have helped to change the law for anyone fleeing domestic abuse, influenced the government to increase housing benefit and raised millions for Crisis and grass roots housing and homelessness organisations all across the Great Britain.
- Would you be willing to tell your story about how Crisis Skylight Birmingham has supported you?
- It could be about helping you to find a job, it could be about helping you find more secure accommodation.
We would love to share your story with others in what ever way you are comfortable.
If you would be willing to share your story, do let your lead worker know.
