About Crisis

Christmas can be very challenging, but particularly for people who do not have a place that they can call home. We mobilise a huge volunteer effort to bring warmth, companionship, and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year. We help people take their first steps out of homelessness, offering Crisis’ year-round support and training to help them leave homelessness behind for good.

About the role  

You will be setting up and running fun activities for our guests in one of our centres, as well as promoting our digital programme of events.

You will be part of the Senior Volunteers cohort along with Key Volunteers, Assistant Shift Leaders and Shift leaders. As part of this role you will:

  • Set up, promote and run fun and engaging activities for guests to get involved with in our Centres
  • Lead sessions and supervise other volunteers to help with activity sessions
  • Promote events and engage guests in the activities of the day
  • Set up and manage resources, including tablets, cinema equipment and PA systems
  • Assist guests in accessing the digital programme of activities
  • Develop effective relationships and work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff at Crisis Christmas
  • Attend online training sessions before beginning your volunteering
  • Adhere to Coronavirus safety procedures in line with Crisis policy

The skills & experience we are looking for

  • At least 1 year’s experience volunteering for Crisis at Christmas
  • Understanding and demonstrating the Crisis Christmas policies and procedures, values and behaviours
  • Ability to lead a team of volunteers
  • A can-do attitude and the ability to use initiative and set up engaging activities for guests to get involved with
  • Confidence in setting up and using a range of technology
  • Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to motivate guests and volunteers
  • Ability to work with the Shift Team and report any potential issues to the shift leader 
  • Ability to deliver Crisis at Christmas services in a fair manner ensuring that the safety of the guests and volunteers is of paramount importance at all times
  • Be a positive role model for all volunteers exhibiting behaviours outlined in the Volunteers Code of Conduct

Additional information

As part of this role you will have access to relevant Crisis at Christmas training events and support and advice from Crisis at Christmas staff team.

  • Demonstrate the Crisis values and behaviours 
  • Adhere to the Volunteer Code of Conduct 
  • To maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all accessible information about guests, members and the organisation
  • We strive to ensure that our services are welcoming, remain relevant and are fully accessible to everyone that we help and support. We are particularly welcoming of volunteers from diverse and other marginalised communities, as this helps us ensure the best experience for those that we are here to help. People who have lived experience of homelessness are also particularly welcome to apply.
