Advice Administrator

This role is now closed.

About Crisis

Christmas can be very challenging, but particularly for people who do not have a place that they can call home. We mobilise a huge volunteer effort to bring warmth, companionship, and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year. We help people take their first steps out of homelessness, offering Crisis’ year-round support and training to help them leave homelessness behind for good.

About the role

  • With over 700 guests visiting our Advisors each Christmas, the Advice office is often a busy and high-energy place to be
  • Guests come to the Advice office to talk about highly emotive issues such as their housing or benefits situation, immigration status or legal difficulties. With a small, committed team of advisors available each day, the role of Administrator is key to a well-functioning service
  • It is a really varied role: you could be welcoming guests at reception and booking appointments, using our databases to record guest info, encouraging guests to use the advice service, or supporting Advisors

Skills and experience we are looking for

  • We are looking for well organised volunteers with strong office and IT skills, who are friendly and approachable
  • Experience of databases and data entry is desirable

Additional info

  • You will be required to attend our Administrators training where you will learn more about our advice service and the admin role, as well as how to use C-Log (our in-house database) and CHAIN - the central database used by London-based homelessness services.
  • You will also be invited to attend the Advice Service Briefing before Christmas, where you will learn more about the service.
  • We strive to ensure that our services are welcoming, remain relevant and are fully accessible to everyone that we help and support. We are particularly welcoming of volunteers from diverse and other marginalised communities, as this helps us ensure the best experience for those that we are here to help. People who have lived experience of homelessness are also particularly welcome to apply.
  • This role requires a Basic DBS check. If you hold a DBS certificate issued for Crisis in 2020, this will still be valid for your volunteering this year.
