Transforming futures

We know that work and financial stability are two things needed to end homelessness. For homeless people, a lack of skills and work experience often presents a barrier to this. Facing a barrier to work is often accompanied by poor self-esteem, confidence and motivation.

To help people out of homelessness, Transforming Futures offers an individually tailored programme of learning and employment activities designed to build their skills, confidence and motivation.

As part of the project, members are able to access courses in a wide variety of practical skills including catering, bricklaying, painting and decorating and tiling. These courses can lead to industry-recognised qualifications and progression to further learning, volunteering, or employment.  The project also includes one-to-one coaching to help members set goals and maintain progression, and also to help them find a job.

Our Skylight Merseyside service works on an outreach basis, so the project will be delivered in partnership with a range of local organisations.

Over the duration of the project:

  • 826 people will be supported by a Crisis Coach.
  • 173 people will earn an accreditation, qualification, or certificate.
  • 83 people will progress into volunteering or work placements, and 72 into employment.
