Engagement and Activities volunteer
Education and engagement can transform the lives of homeless people and Crisis at Christmas provides an exciting opportunity to involve our guests in a range of stimulating activities.
During the week we will offer a meaningful, inspirational and fun programme of:
- Engagement and Activities
- Entertainments
Engagement and Activities
Whether you are an experienced teacher a dedicated tutor, or simply a passionate advocate of lifelong learning we would love to have you on our team.
Volunteers within this team provide essential engagement and activities opportunities across all centres. They include Information Technology , Health and Fitness, Creative and Performing Arts workshops and many more.
As with other types of Crisis at Christmas volunteering, we need you to commit to a minimum of two shifts, so this means volunteering on two days from 23 to 29 December inclusive. The shift times are as follows: 10 am to 7 pm in all centres. Reliability is a key issue and we need you to turn up on time for your allocated shifts.
Entertainments volunteers
We will once again be planning a full programme of entertainments which will include everything from live music, comedy, film clubs, circus acts, bingo, giant board games, karaoke, dance troops, theatre groups, quizzes and magic. We aim to have an exciting and eclectic range of performances of all flavours. The entertainments programme has always been very well received and appreciated by our guests. If you are an outgoing performer who can engage and inspire then we would love to have you on the team.
We are also aiming to provide creative workshops such as dance, theatre, music and comedy. If so, and you would like to run one of these, then please contact us.
There are various options of when you can perform or run a workshop as you can stay in one centre or travel around various centres.
As with other types of Crisis at Christmas volunteering, we would like IF POSSIBLE for you to commit to a minimum of two shifts, so this means volunteering on two days from 23 to 29 December inclusive. If you are available for one day only please email ccengagement@crisis.org.uk and we can organise alternative arrangements. Performance times are as follows: 12 pm to 4 pm (early) and 4 pm to 7 pm (late) in day centres; 12 pm to 5 pm(early) and 5 pm to 10 pm (late) in residential centres. We can of course schedule according to your availability. Reliability is a key issue and we need you to turn up on time for your allocated performance.
What experience do I need?
For our engagements and arts and crafts teams, we would primarily be looking for volunteers with a passion for education, and a genuine enthusiasm for their specialism. We will be particularly pleased to receive applications from qualified and experienced teachers and tutors.
For our entertainments team, we are looking for volunteers who can convey a sense of enthusisam to our guests. The games and sports organisers should be willing to engage with our guests on a personal level. Our entertainers should be self-supporting acts; we will not have the time or resources available to form bands from individuals.
What commitment do I need to make?
Volunteers need to commit to a minimum of two shifts, so this means volunteering on two days between 23 and 29 December inclusive. The Engagements and Arts and Crafts shifts are from 10 am to 7 pm each day. The nature of entertainments means the shift patterns are more flexible.
Turning up on time
Reliability is a key issue and we need all volunteers to turn up on time for allocated shifts.
