5th Human Library, Barking
The Crisis Human Library was one of the best-attended yet, with nearly 40 people creating a rather large stir in the newly-designed Barking Learning Centre.
The cult of the Human Library seems to be getting bigger with each event, if yesterday's numbers are anything to go by; the studious and the literary at the Barking Learning Centre needed little encouragement to break from their leisure (or less-so) to spend fifteen minutes talking with people they would never otherwise meet.
The Human Library enlightens in the way in which conversation seems to flow so easily between two people who have literally just been introduced to each another. People who, as far as they were previously concerned, lived on opposite sides of the societal spectrum. People who quickly found that fifteen minutes was scarcely time enough to finish off a conversation they found much more engrossing than was previously expected.
It is the genuine interest and enthusiasm that the Human Library brings out in its participants that highlight how essential good communication is towards a common understanding; moreover how enjoyable and informative such positive communication can be.
