Statement on the proposed restructure at Crisis

Given the challenging economic climate, national homelessness charity Crisis must go through a period of change to safeguard the organisation and ensure its financial sustainability. It has therefore just begun a consultation on proposals for a restructure.

Matt Downie, Chief Executive of Crisis, said:

“Across the sector, many organisations are having to make difficult decisions in the face of rising costs and a decline in income. Crisis is unfortunately having to do the same as we contend with inflationary cost pressures. At the same time, the ongoing squeeze on household incomes is affecting our fundraising and a downturn in the retail market has impacted our shops.

“In April we informed our staff that we will be undergoing a restructure that will lead to a reduction in roles across the organisation. We have now entered a consultation with staff on these proposed changes.

“The decision to reduce staff numbers is not one taken lightly. What makes this even more challenging is that it’s against a backdrop of rising homelessness and growing demand for our services and expertise.

“Our core mission remains unchanged. We will continue to work side-by-side with people across Britain to help them secure a safe and stable home, take on the big political barriers that are pushing people into homelessness and build a community of people across Britain that are helping to end homelessness.

“I’d like to thank our dedicated staff for their continued hard work and professionalism at this challenging and uncertain time.”
