Working with Crisis

Close up of an open door with a key in the lock. A person is carrying a cardboard box through the open door.

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness, and we know that a stable home is the foundation we all need for a decent life.

We want to work with landlords and agents who care about helping people as well as good business. A key contact in our knowledgeable and dedicated local teams will work with you from the start to help make sure tenants settle in smoothly and support you to build a good relationship with them.

If you want to find tenants to fill your properties and help end someone’s homelessness, work with us.

Frequently asked questions

We work with people who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. This includes people in temporary accommodation and hostels, as well as people sofa surfing and staying in unsuitable and insecure accommodation. Many of our clients are single people, but we may also support couples and families.

We usually have people waiting for properties and will endeavour to find you a tenant once your property is ready to let and we are satisfied that it meets legal safety standards.

We will require evidence that as a landlord you are fulfilling your legal responsibilities and ensuring your tenants are safe. Our team of experts can assist you with this and provide advice on new and changing landlord regulations.

Further details here: Documentation we require for working with us.

Crisis will work with you to find suitable tenants for your property and we hope that everyone will be satisfied. If you are unsatisfied, for any reason, we want to hear your feedback.

If you are concerned that your tenant is in breach of the tenancy agreement, then you can serve the appropriate notice to get back the property.

For more information about this process and changes following the introduction of the Renters’ Rights Act please see this overview.

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.

We take care matching you with the right tenant based on both of your needs. We really get to know the people we support, working one-to-one with them to find a way out of homelessness. Securing decent, long-term private rented homes is often part of that plan.

Yes. Our service is completely free. We’re invested in working with landlords who can help house people experiencing homelessness because this contributes to our overall mission as an organisation.

Whether you let directly to private tenants or through us, we cannot guarantee that all tenancies will be problem free.

In case of dispute or problems, we can offer tenancy mediation to facilitate agreements that benefit both landlords and tenants. This is the most straightforward way to resolve tenancy disputes and we can provide support to allow a constructive and facilitated discussion.

Our teams are experienced and can help all parties involved to understand one another’s concerns and to jointly come up with ideas for how to end their ongoing dispute.
