Ardrossan child making festive hair clips to raise money for homelessness

11-year-old Elliott Woodward from Ardrossan has been putting their creative skills to good use this December by making festive hair clips in return for donations to national homelessness charity Crisis.

As part of a craft project, Elliott had been making the hair clips in a range of designs, including gingerbread men, reindeers and Christmas stockings. After visiting Glasgow and seeing the amount of people living on the streets, Elliott wanted to sell his designs to raise money to support Crisis.

Elliott initially set out to raise just under £60 - the equivalent cost of reserving two places at one of Crisis’ Christmas centres around Great Britain, which provide services food and shelter to people experiencing homelessness – and to date, Elliott has raised a fantastic £110.

Elliott is planning to continue making the designs until 23rd December, which is when Crisis’ 16 centres will open for the Christmas period.

Elliott said: “Now it is winter and the Christmas season, it makes me feel upset to think of people being outside when it is so cold and dark. I thought it would be impossible to raise it because I am only 11, but already I have managed to make £110, which is nearly enough to reserve a place for four people!”

Richard Lee, director of fundraising at Crisis, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for Elliott’s efforts in raising money for Crisis this Christmas. We know that ending homelessness altogether is possible – no one should be without a safe and stable home. It’s thanks to people, just like Elliott, doing wonderful things that we’re able to continue our work to provide the services and support people experiencing homelessness need, and ultimately, help us reach our aim of ending homelessness altogether.”
