Crisis responds to Liberal Democrat commitment to end homelessness

The Liberal Democrat party have today launched their General Election manifesto with a clear commitment to end all forms of homelessness.

In response to this announcement, Jon Sparkes, chief executive of Crisis said: “We’re delighted to see the Liberal Democrat manifesto has made a clear commitment to publishing a plan to end all forms of homelessness, and clear policies that will be needed including increasing housing benefit so people can truly afford to pay their rent and scrapping the punitive Vagrancy Act. We must see all party manifestos commit to ending all forms of homelessness, including building at least 90,000 social rent homes a year for the next five years and investing in housing benefit.

“Everybody in our society should have the stability of a safe home.  There are currently hundreds of thousands of people experiencing homelessness now – in hostels and B&Bs, sofa surfing or living on the streets. But we know it doesn’t need to be this way. Whoever forms the next government has the power to ensure everyone has a place to call home.”
