Information for Will-writers

To leave a gift to Crisis, the essential information you need is our registered charity number and address:

Registered charity no. 1082947

Address: Crisis, 66 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LT

When writing or updating your Will, we always recommend you speak to a Solicitor or other Will-writing professional. You can find a registered Solicitor near to you by searching the Law Society website.

There are two main types of gift you can include in your Will. A specific sum of money, e.g. £1,000 - this is called a pecuniary gift. Alternatively, you can specify a fraction or percentage of your estate, which is called a residuary gift.

Here is some suggested wording for each type of gift:

Pecuniary gift

I give the sum of £__ to Crisis, 66 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LT (Registered Charity Number 1082947) for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.

Residuary gift

I give __ % of the residue of my estate to Crisis, 66 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LT (Registered Charity Number 1082947) for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.

Please note these are examples only, and we always recommend using a Solicitor or Will-writing professional to write your Will. The wording of Residuary gifts can affect the rest of your Will and have implications for Inheritance Tax.

If you would like to leave a gift to be spent helping homeless people in a specific area, this may be possible by leaving a gift for one of our Skylight Centres. Contact George Shelley on wills@crisis.org.uk for more information on how to do this.
