Crisis responds to Scottish Green Party's pledge to end homelessness by 2040

Today, Tuesday 14th April, the Scottish Green Party has published their election manifesto which includes a commitment to end homelessness by 2040.

Responding to the manifesto, Meave McGoldrick, Head of Policy and Communications at Crisis, said:

“We warmly welcome the Scottish Green Party’s pledge to end homelessness by 2040. This marks the second manifesto commitment of its kind ahead of the Scottish elections and reflects growing cross-party recognition that ending homelessness must be a national priority.

“The emergence of a shared ambition across parties is critical. Ending homelessness is a moral imperative, and its success will depend on sustained political will and collaboration across successive parliaments, not allowing it to become a political football.

“We particularly welcome the focus on addressing the root causes of homelessness, alongside commitments to prevention and funding for rapid rehousing. These align closely with Crisis Scotland’s recommendations and represent meaningful progress.

“This is a bold and encouraging step toward building the long-term, cross-party consensus needed to end homelessness for good. With sustained investment and continued political commitment, ending homelessness in Scotland by 2040 is within reach.”
