Any volunteering for Crisis will be carried out in a Covid-19 secure environment, with appropriate PPE and in some cases remotely.

Our Skylight centre buildings are beginning to reopen and we are also continuing to support people online.
Our shops are located in London. We work with local communities and volunteers to create shops customers love.
Volunteering with your company can bring a wealth of expertise to everyone affected by homelessness.
You will gain experience of working with the national charity for ending homelessness. Your role will make a difference to the lives of our members’ experiencing homelessness as part of a friendly team who are committed to ending homelessness.
We provide a supportive environment in which to share your existing skills and develop new ones. You will have access to support as and when required including relevant training.
Current volunteering roles available will be listed on this page. If there is nothing currently in your area please check back regularly.
For each role you will need to fill out a short application form telling us why you would like to carry out the role. For some roles we will ask you to provide references. This can be from a recent place of work or education within the last year. Where this is not possible, you can provide a reference from someone who knows you, who is not a family member.
If successful we will invite you to a volunteer interview. Your interview may need to take place virtually, and we will support you with this. Unfortunately, as we get lots of applications not everyone is invited to interview
There are different induction options depending on the role that you are applying for. All volunteers will be asked to complete the Online Volunteer Induction – this should take around half an hour to complete.
Volunteers who will be working with members will be invited to our Member Facing Volunteer Induction. This session lasts around three hours and may be carried out online with your coordinator, or in a classroom setting. The induction covers Crisis and its history, causes of homelessness, safeguarding, homelessness and health, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
This is entirely role-dependent and there may be greater flexibility depending on the role. Please consider whether you can commit to this before applying.
After you submit your application you will get an acknowledgment email letting you know it has been received. Please check your email junk folder if you can't see it in your inbox.
Someone will then be in touch about your application. Please note this may take a few weeks. Some of our roles require a disclosure check, which can take up to two weeks to come back.

Potential volunteers will be invited to a volunteer interview, either over the phone, virtually or face to face with their Volunteer Coordinator and, where possible, their potential Volunteer Supervisor.
Try not to worry about this, it is just an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you may have.
In a small amount of cases, where we have a large number of applicants, we may need to hold competitive interviews, but we will let you know about this beforehand.
You will be given access to the Crisis Learn site, on which you can complete modules on topics such as ‘Safeguarding’, ‘Equality and Diversity’ and ‘Data Protection’. There is a wide variety of online modules to support you in your role and development.
We hope that this method of learning will help those who struggle to find the time to attend face to face sessions. Each module should take you no more than half an hour.
Some roles require additional training eg Fundraising Volunteers and Literacy Coaches will attend role specific workshops to help them feel prepared for their roles.
You will also be invited to optional training sessions throughout the year - past topics have included ‘Mental Health’ and ‘Introduction to Homelessness’ – it is completely up to you whether you would like to attend these or not, they may take place online or in a classroom setting.
