A new website and brand to help us end homelessness

Kate Nightingale, Head of Marketing and Communications

Today marks the start of our 50th anniversary year. In 1967, responding to the spiralling homelessness crisis, our founders – a group of activists and politicians coming together to do what they could to solve an urgent social problem – never intended for the charity they formed to be a permanent one.

So we don’t think there’s cause to celebrate the fact that we’re still needed, 50 years later. And we’re going to spend the year working with others to develop a long term plan to end homelessness, so we’re not still needed in 50 years’ time.

To support this ambitious goal, we’re choosing the start of our anniversary year to launch our new website and some changes to our brand, to make sure that our determination to end homelessness once and for all is clearly and boldly at the centre of everything we say and do.

Our purpose to end homelessness - for individuals who are homeless now, and for society as a whole, for good - is what drives Crisis and everyone who works here. We wanted to make that passion and focus louder and clearer throughout all our communications, on and offline, wherever and however people come into contact with us.

We know we can’t end homelessness on our own. We want to work with everyone who has the ideas, knowledge and expertise to help make it happen. We need to inspire the public to believe that ending homelessness can be done, and to be part of it. Our new strapline, ‘Together we will end homelessness’ reflects both our ambition and our belief in the power of collaboration.

Our new website provides the platform for this collaboration to happen. We’ve based it on research with supporters, members and partners to make getting involved simple and accessible. This could be joining our campaigns, or generously giving money or time, as so many amazing donors and volunteers already do, to make our work possible. Our new campaign, #EverybodyIn, aims to build a positive movement for change. Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing real-life stories of homelessness which will help change opinions, raise awareness and ultimately, harness public support for ending homelessness.

We all need to understand the causes, consequences and solutions to homelessness if we are to end it – and the new Homelessness knowledge hub brings together the latest and best evidence, from the UK and around the world.

Most importantly, we exist to help people leave homelessness behind for good. The new website makes it as easy as possible for everyone who needs us to find out how we – and others providing vital services – can help them do that.
