How will you Make it Crisis this Christmas?

We’re all looking forward to Christmas more than ever this year. Whatever you’re planning, you can do it for Crisis. Get your school, community group, colleagues, family or friends together in person or online to help people take the first steps out of homelessness over the festive period. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Advent walkathon

Get friends to sponsor you to walk a set distance each day during Advent. A JustGiving page is the perfect place to raise support.

A festive quiz

Test your knowledge and get competitive with a festive quiz between friends, family, students or colleagues. Ask for a donation per team and let the battle commence!

Christmas window dressing showdown

Invite friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to decorate their windows with festive displays, with a small donation to take part. Share them with each other online or post them to the Make it Crisis Facebook page, so you can decide on a winner.

Christmas keepy-uppies for Crisis

How many keepy-uppies can you do in a row? Set yourself a target and ask people to sponsor you for Crisis. Compete to see who can do the most, film yourselves and post online to see who the winner is.

A gingerbread house Bake-off

Propose a Christmas bake-off with friends and family – baking a gingerbread house in your own kitchens, with each household group messaging the results. Tickets for taking part to raise funds. Why not set up a JustGiving page to make things easy?

Christmas karaoke goes virtual!

Invite friends, family, colleagues to take part in an online Christmas karaoke, even if they're on the other side of the world. Everyone could select a song in advance - for yourself or maybe for others for extra fun. A donation to enter.

Christmas memory Secret Santa

Anonymously share your funniest Christmas memory with the organiser by email, WhatsApp or text, and then compete to see if you can work out whose is whose, while laughing along with colleagues, friends or family.

Zoom pizza and Christmas movie night

Invite friends and family over for the ultimate Christmas movie night. Don't forget to order your Papa John's Festive Meal Deal - with a donation from every purchase going to Crisis.

“My coach has shown me how to keep hope alive, keep faith alive. She saved my life."

Emma Make it Crisis this ChristmasWith a background of broken relationships and an abusive childhood, Em ended up sleeping rough. “I came to Crisis over Christmas when I had been sleeping on buses. It was amazing to have a bed to sleep in, and people who were helpful and kind.

“I was given a Crisis coach who gave me a huge amount of support. I could trust her. She advised me on benefits and housing, as well as being there to talk to, which greatly helped my mental health. “Then I met a lady who let me stay rent free. In lockdown I ended up sleeping in her van. But it started to leak and I was cold. My Crisis coach alerted the council who put me in emergency accommodation because of Covid.

“My coach has shown me how to keep hope alive, keep faith alive. She saved my life.”

With help from her coach, Em is now renting in a shared house, learning new skills and looking to work in outreach or teach people how to grow food.
