About Crisis at Christmas

Christmas can be very challenging, but particularly for people who do not have a place that they can call home. We mobilise a huge volunteer effort to bring warmth, companionship, and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year. We help people take their first steps out of homelessness, offering Crisis’ year-round support and training to help them leave homelessness behind for good.

About the Role

Catering is an absolutely vital service and fresh home-cooked meals are the ultimate way to make our guests feel good and welcomed at Crisis at Christmas. Chefs are responsible for leading a dynamic team of volunteers and ensuring that our guests are fed delicious hot meals on time. You will be supported by the head chef and kitchen coordinator and work as a team to provide around 300 meals per service.

Skills and experience we are looking for

  • Experience of mass catering and leading and motivating a team of catering staff
  • Level 2 Food safety qualification (see additional information)

Additional information

We will be interviewing volunteers with the appropriate experience to discuss the role before assigning shifts.

Please note, we will require you to have a Level 2 Food Safety Qualification for this role. As we are unable to reimburse the cost of this qualification, please only complete it once you have already submitted your application.

We strive to ensure that our services are welcoming, remain relevant and are fully accessible to everyone that we help and support. We are particularly welcoming of volunteers from diverse and other marginalised communities, as this helps us ensure the best experience for those that we are here to help. People who have lived experience of homelessness are also particularly welcome to apply.
